A member of the Wanchai District Council (DC) has been charged by the ICAC with engaging in corrupt conduct at 2007 DC Election by lodging a false or misleading election return.

The defendant, 48, faces one count of corrupt conduct to lodge a false or misleading election return, contrary to Section 20 of the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance (ECICO).

The defendant, currently on ICAC bail, will appear in Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am next Tuesday (August 19) for plea.

The charge alleges that on December 24, 2007, the defendant, in an election return lodged under Section 37 of the ECICO, had made a false or misleading statement that the amount of payments made to two election assistants was $2,560 each.

ICAC investigation revealed that the defendant had allegedly under-stated the expenses paid to his election assistants.
