The ICAC has arrested five persons, including a police constable and a supplies assistant of the Hong Kong Police (HKP), for alleged bribery in relation to theft and unauthorised sale of police uniforms and furniture. Also arrested in an operation late last week were a staff of the Hospital Authority (HA), a driver of a private company, and a movie props supplier. The case arose from a complaint alleging corruption against some police officers. The HKP officially issued uniforms are properties of the HKP and are not allowed for sale without authorisation. ICAC enquiries revealed that the arrested HA staff might have offered advantages to the police constable and supplies assistant for obtaining uniforms officially issued by the HKP. Subsequently, the HA staff had allegedly sold the police uniforms to members of the public for profits. The arrested driver was alleged to have claimed to be a police officer and sold a police helmet he obtained from another source to the HA staff. During the operation, batches of police uniforms, including patrol shoes, windbreakers, raincoats and helmets, were seized by ICAC officers. Inquiries revealed that the supplies assistant had also allegedly allowed the removal of a batch of furniture from a police station by the movie props supplier without authorisation. ICAC enquiries are continuing.
