Former marketing staff of wine distributor charged with accepting bribes over renovation contracts 11/03/2010

A former marketing manager of a wine distributor has been charged by the ICAC for allegedly accepting over $380,000 in bribes for awarding renovation contracts to a design company.

The defendant, 42, former marketing manager of a wine distributor, faces 11 counts of agent accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

He will appear in Eastern Magistracy tomorrow (Friday) at 9:30 am, pending transfer to the District Court.

The charges allege that the defendant, on 11 occasions between August 2004 and May 2007, accepted bribes ranging from $10,000 to $60,000 from the sole proprietor of a design company for awarding renovation contracts of designated areas in various karaoke boxes, bars and exhibition venues for the promotion of wine distributed by the said company.

It is alleged that the total bribes amounted to $388,000.

The said wine distributor has rendered full assistance to the ICAC in its investigation.

The defendant has been granted ICAC bail, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
