A man was charged by the ICAC for fabricating a corruption report against officers of the Customs and Excise Department (C&E), accusing them of accepting advantages from cigarette smugglers. The defendant, 53, faces one count of knowingly making a false report to an officer of the ICAC, contrary to Section 13B(a) of the ICAC Ordinance. He will appear in Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am next Wednesday (April 7) for plea. The charge alleges that between October 9 and November 23, 2009, the defendant knowingly made a false report to an ICAC officer, accusing four C&E officers posted at Lok Ma Chau Control Point might have accepted advantages from some unknown smugglers and abstained from taking action against their smuggling activities. The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance next Wednesday.
