ICAC chief visits Tuen Mun District

2017-10-7

ICAC Commissioner Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu today (October 7) called on members of the public to foster a probity culture in their local communities, stay vigilant at all times and maintain a “zero tolerance” against corruption.

Mr Peh made the remarks after officiating at the ICAC’s “All for Integrity” Bus Parade cum Exhibition in Tuen Mun District this morning. The event was one of the highlights under the Commission’s multi-year territory-wide “All for Integrity” education and publicity programme.

Since late June this year, the ICAC’s decorated “All for Integrity” double-decker bus has been touring across the territory to disseminate anti-corruption messages to local communities. The event showcases the Commission’s continuous effort in reaching out to every corner of the city to cultivate a culture of zero tolerance against corruption.

“The battle against corruption cannot be won without public engagement and community support which are the most effective means,” Mr Peh told residents of the Tuen Mun District today.

In 2016, the ICAC’s Community Relations Department had garnered support from over 820 organisations for various anti-graft activities, reaching a total of about 800,000 people from different strata of the community. The Commission has partnered with different organisations, schools and community groups in reaching its “All for Integrity” goal.

The Commissioner reminded members of the public that under no circumstances should they resort to bribery in their daily lives or at their workplaces, adding that should they come across corruption, they should report to the ICAC.

“This is how we can avoid backtracking to the bad old days of rampant corruption in the 1960s and 1970s. Only by safeguarding the core values of integrity and probity can our young generations be nurtured in a clean and fair society,” he added.

Joining the ICAC’s “All for Integrity” Bus Parade in Tuen Mun District today were Tuen Mun District Council Chairman Mr Leung Kin-man, Tuen Mun District Officer Ms Aubrey Fung Ngar-wai, members of the Tuen Mun District Council, and representatives from Area Committees and other district organisations.

The “All for Integrity” bus set off from Butterfly Estate in Tuen Mun this morning and visited various places in the district. The Commissioner and other officiating guests distributed ICAC promotional leaflets and souvenirs to members of the public, and also visited the ICAC’s exhibition held at a shopping arcade in Tuen Mun.
