Commissioner's Message

It is with the greatest pleasure that Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption hosts this Third ICAC Symposium. On behalf of the Commission, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all delegates participating in this event.

ICAC has been adopting a comprehensive three-pronged strategy in tackling corruption, in both the pubic and private sectors, through tough law enforcement and effective prevention and education efforts. This strategy has proved to be highly effective in combating corruption and has won worldwide acclaims as a model of success.

As leaders and professionals in different fields and organizations, we all realise the perils of corruption and the importance of enhancing governance standards. The demise of some multi-national enterprises in recent years as a result of corporate fraud and corruption has further put us all on the alert. This Symposium, which focuses on "Corporate Corruption, Integrity and Governance", provides a timely, valuable forum for global exchanges and experience sharing on the important issues of fighting corporate corruption and fraud, as well as enhancing governance standards.

During the next three days, top experts from anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies, justice departments, regulatory bodies, international organizations, accounting and legal professions, and multi-national corporations from around the world will share with us their privileged knowledge and experiences. With your active participation, I am confident that this Symposium will bring about extraordinary synergy in the global battle against corruption.

I wish everyone a very rewarding experience at the Symposium and an enjoyable stay in Hong Kong.
