Anti-corruption leaders of Maldives and Indonesia visit Hong Kong and strengthen cooperation with ICAC
September 2024
In September 2024, high-level delegations from the Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives and the Corruption Eradication Commission of Indonesia visited Hong Kong to sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on anti-corruption cooperation with the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC). Exchange activities were also arranged during their stay.
The MoUs were signed by ICAC Commissioner Mr. Woo Ying-ming, and President of the Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives Mr. Adam Shamil, as well as Vice-Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission of Indonesia Dr. Johanis Tanak. The signing took place at the closing ceremony of the Professional Anti-Corruption Training in Major Infrastructure Projects, hosted by the Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption on September 10. The MoUs were also exchanged at the opening ceremony of the ninth Belt and Road (B&R) Summit on September 11, witnessed by Chief Executive Mr. John Lee.
These MoUs establish a framework for cooperation between the ICAC and its Maldivian and Indonesian counterparts in areas such as information exchange and diversified anti-corruption training.

During their stay in Hong Kong, the delegations had meetings with ICAC Commissioner. They also visited ICAC facilities to gain an in-depth understanding of the ICAC's latest anti-corruption strategies.

The Maldivian and Indonesian delegates engaged in an in-depth exchange with the Hong Kong Business Ethics Development Centre and the Corruption Prevention Advisory Service, both under the ICAC. Experiences in preventing corruption and promoting business ethics in the private sector were shared on the occasion.
Additionally, the Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives shared anti-graft experience with the participants of the Professional Anti-Corruption Training in Major Infrastructure Projects, and visited the Hong Kong Institute of Directors to exchange views on enhancing corporate governance.
