High connectivity to enhance anti-corruption strength

November 2018

A major feature of our present day world is the high connectivity among different places and economies not only in the areas of trade and international finance, but also in global cooperation including the fight and prevention of corruption. Since the launch of the international training and consultancy initiative in February 2018, the ICAC has connected with over 30 jurisdictions to offer capacity building assistance for their anti-corruption agencies. They included 20 delegations from Eastern and Central Europe and Eurasia attending the High-level Conference of the Group of States against Corruption of the Council of Europe (GRECO) held in Croatia last month. ICAC Commissioner Mr Simon Peh held separate meetings with these delegations to introduce Hong Kong's anti-corruption efforts and explore collaboration including training and consultancy services.

As the Convenor of the Training Committee of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA), Commissioner Peh chaired the Committee's first meeting held in Vienna in October 2018 to map out the training plan for the Association and connect members for exchange of knowledge, expertise and experience. The Training Committee will organise its debut training programme in May 2019 in Hong Kong back-to-back the 7th ICAC Symposium .

The IAACA, of which Hong Kong ICAC has been a member since 2007, is a non-governmental international organisation set up to promote cooperation in worldwide anti-corruption issues and foster the effective implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption. ICAC Commissioner is an Executive Committee Member of the IAACA and Convenor of its Training Committee.

While Hong Kong's high connectivity is well served by its network of mega infrastructure, the well trusted legal and financial systems and the convergence of global talents, having a clean business environment remains one of the competitive pillars of this vibrant city.
