Experience sharing at international conference

During the 9th Regional Conference of the ADB/OECD Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia and the Pacific held in mid-November 2017 in Seoul, Republic of Korea, Ms Valentina Chan, Assistant Director of Community Relations of Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), shared the Commission's experience in nurturing an integrity culture with over 250 delegates from 47 countries and international organizations.

Speaking at the High-Level Panel on Achievements, Challenges and Future Priorities for Asia-Pacific together with other heads of anti-corruption agencies, Ms Chan explained how the ICAC's holistic approach has generated a paradigm shift in public attitude towards corruption from "acceptance" to "zero tolerance"; created co-ownership between the public, private and civic sectors in the fight against corruption; and sustained engagement of citizens as our multipliers of anti-corruption messages.

In addition to participating in the Steering Group meeting, Ms Chan also attended the first Public Integrity Network meeting and fruitfully exchanged with delegates from different jurisdictions on Hong Kong's experience in enhancing a clean public service during the two-day event.

Exchange with overseas visitors

As an active member of the international anti-corruption community, the ICAC frequently exchanges with visitors from all over the world. In December, we received Dr Christos Cabolis, Chief Economist and Head of Operations of International Institute for Management Development's World Competitiveness Center. Beside introducing the latest probity environment of Hong Kong, Mr Raymond Ng, our Director of Community Relations, shared with Dr Cabolis the Commission's long term partnership with the private sector in promoting business ethics as the first line of defence against corruption. Dr Cabolis also met with members of ICAC's Business Ethics Development Advisory Committee and discussed the city's strong rule of law, transparent government and vibrant civil society which serve to enhance Hong Kong's competitive advantage.
