The Independent Commission Against Corruption today (Friday) launches a 24-hour election enquiry hotline to tie in with the commencement of the nomination for the Election Committee subsectors by-elections.

Members of the public, including candidates and their election agents, can dial 2920 6530 for enquiries about issues related to the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance (E(CIC)O).

“To help the candidates, election agents and voters to better understand the E(CIC)O and avoid any inadvertent contraventions to the legislation, the ICAC has prepared different promotional materials to be distributed through various channels”, ICAC Programme Co-ordinator (Elections), Miss Rosaline Cheung said.

Candidates and election agents will be given an information booklet highlighting the key features of the E(CIC)O, whilst a publicity leaflet will also be mailed to the voters reminding them of the importance of abiding by the law and appealing them to sup port a clean election.

Miss Cheung said the ICAC would also participate in a briefing to be organised by the Electoral Affairs Commission on December 22 to alert candidates and election agents to possible corruption pitfalls in elections and enhance their understanding of the anti-corruption legislation.

“Requests for individual visits or briefings from candidates and their election agents to clarify legal points will also be entertained,” she added.

Main points of the E(CIC)O and related information has also been uploaded onto the ICAC corporate website ( http://www.icac.org.hk ) for browsing and downloading.

The enquiry hotline is expected to be in operation till April.
