Three more charged for alleged bribery over food supplies to hotels and restaurants

Three more persons have been charged today (Wednesday) by the ICAC for their alleged involvement in bribery scams in relation to food supplies to hotels and restaurants, following the prosecution of 11 others earlier this year.
Lau Chor-lam, 56, operator of Shing Kam Ho (SKH); Wong Wah-lock, 45, purchasing officer of Langham Hotel Hong Kong; and Lamy Chan Lam-mei, 47, former purchasing officer of Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, will appear in Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am on Friday (De cember 29) in three separate cases.
SKH is a frozen meat supplier of various hotels and restaurants.
Eleven other persons were earlier charged for their alleged roles in connection with the corruption inquiry.
In the first case, Lau Chor-lam faces 22 counts of offering advantages to an agent, contrary to Section 9(2) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (PBO), and four of conspiracy to defraud.
The bribery charges allege that between January 1999 and December 2005, Lau had offered approximately a total of over $630,000 to employees of six hotels, three restaurants and a yacht club as rewards for placing purchasing orders for food with Lau tradin g as SKH.
Four other charges allege Lau of conspiring with other persons to defraud a hotel and three restaurants by submitting false invoices of SKH and causing them to pay Lau in accordance with the invoices. The invoices are said to have contained falsely overs tated quantities of food sold and delivered to those restaurants and hotel.
In the second case, Wong Wah-lock has been charged with two counts of agent accepting advantages, contrary to Section 9(1) of PBO.
Wong is alleged to have accepted approximately $80,000 from Lau on separate occasions between October 2001 and December 2005 as rewards for placing purchasing orders with Lau trading as SKH.
In the last case, Chan Lam-mei faces two counts of agent accepting advantages, contrary to Section 9(1) of PBO.
The charges allege that Chan had accepted $100,000 and $3,500 from Lau on separate occasions between October 1995 and December 2005 as rewards for placing purchasing orders with Lau trading as SKH.
The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearances on Friday.
