2009-12-10
The ICAC has charged two serving and one former staff of a cemetery for allegedly accepting bribes and using exhumation permits containing false information in relation to the exhumation of deceased persons.
The defendants are Hung Yee-lee, 55, Leung Chi-wing, 51, both Assistant Supervisors of Junk Bay Chinese Permanent Cemetery of the Board of Management of the Chinese Permanent Cemeteries (BMCPC); and Ho Shu-chin, 36, former Acting Supervisor of Junk Bay Ch inese Permanent Cemetery of BMCPC.
Hung and Leung respectively face three and two counts of agent accepting an advantage.
Hung is also charged with one count of agent using document with intent to deceive his principal, while Leung faces four similar offences. Ho alone faces a similar offence.
The defendants will appear in Kwun Tong Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Friday) for plea.
The case arose from a corruption complaint. Subsequent ICAC enquiries revealed the above alleged offences.
Three bribery charges allege that Hung accepted $500 and a total of $200 respectively from a family member of a deceased person and an operator of a tombstone factory as rewards for supervising the exhumation of the deceased persons concerned.
Two other bribery charges allege Leung of having accepted $500 and $100 respectively from a staff member of another tombstone factory and the family members of another deceased person for the same reason.
Hung is also alleged of having used an exhumation permit of a deceased person, which contained a bogus exhumation date, with intent to deceive his principal.
Leung is alleged to have used four similar exhumation permits for the same reason. Ho is accused of having used a similar exhumation permit.
The above alleged offences are said to have taken place between July 2007 and August last year.
BMCPC had rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.
The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearance tomorrow.
