Global video competition winners share achievements on International Anti-Corruption Day

The International Anti-Corruption Public Service Announcement Video Competition and Workshop, hosted by the ICAC on behalf of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA), concluded on the International Anti-Corruption Day (December) with anti-graft agencies from around the world garnering accolades for their innovative efforts in enlisting public support in the battle against corruption.

Addressing the Awards Presentation and Closing Ceremony, Director General of the European Commission’s European Anti-Fraud Office cum chief adjudicator of the competition, Mr Giovanni Kessler, said the entries reflected the diversities in culture as well as a variety of approaches used to carry out anti-corruption messages.

“While some entries appealed to their communities for not accepting corruption as a way of life, others showed efforts to sustain the anti-corruption momentum,” said Mr Kessler.

In his closing remarks at the ceremony today, Vice President of IAACA, Dr Eduardo Vetere, thanked the organising parties and participants from across the world for their enthusiastic involvement, engagement and commitment.

Attended by over 200 anti-corruption and media experts from local and around the world, the two-day event attracted 29 contesting entries from anti-graft bodies and law enforcement agencies of 21 countries and places.

Participating countries also included the Mainland, Macao, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Iraq, Bhutan, Brazil, Croatia, Montenegro, Russia, Republic of Botswana, Madagascar, Zambia and Papua New Guinea.

A total of nine awards were presented today after deliberation by a 10-member international adjudication panel comprising members of the Event Steering Group, regional representatives, as well as renowned professionals and academics in advertising, mass m edia and public relations.

The Gold Award went to the Singaporean Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau’s video “3-part Series on Anti-Corruption Messages” , while the Croatian Ministry of Justice’s “Collapse of Society” won two awards –'96 the Silver Award and the Most Creative Award.

“My School” produced by the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission was presented the Bronze Award.

Four other productions respectively by the Mainland’s Corruption Prevention Professional Committee of China Law Society, the Procuratorial Culture and Article Association of China, Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission and the Papua New Guinean Ombudsman also received Awards of Excellence.

Meanwhile, over 200 local and overseas participants of the event voted a video entitled “Cost of Greed” and produced by the Procuratorial Culture and Article Association of China for the Most Popular Award.

As the host of the event, the ICAC did not compete but had shared its mass media productions with participants.

Also held this morning prior to the ceremony were three parallel workshop sessions on the effective use of integrated media in enlisting public support, image management strategies to win public trust, and cultural divergence and convergence in mass communication.
