ICAC Commissioner visits Malaysia and Thailand to strengthen anti-corruption collaboration

Leading a team of senior officers, ICAC Commissioner Mr Woo Ying-ming today (December 19) begins a visit to Malaysia and Thailand where the delegation will meet local anti-corruption and law enforcement authorities to exchange the latest anti-graft initiatives and foster cooperation.
“The ICAC has always maintained close ties with anti-graft agencies in Malaysia and Thailand. We hope this trip will further deepen ICAC’s cooperation with our anti-corruption counterparts in Southeast Asia. We will seize the opportunity to brief them on our latest anti-graft strategies, the strong rule of law and stable social environment. We will continue to tell the international community the good stories of Hong Kong,” Mr Woo said.
Calling on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) this morning, Mr Woo and the delegation met with Chief Commissioner Hon Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Azam bin Baki and other senior officials of MACC. The two parties exchanged views on the latest anti-corruption work in the two places. The delegation visited the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Academy after the meeting.
The delegation will meet Hon Tan Sri Hj. Abu Kassim bin Mohamed, Advisory Board Chairman of the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre tomorrow (December 20). They will tour the centre facilities and then visit the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption. The delegation will depart for Bangkok, Thailand in the evening to continue their visit.
On Wednesday and Thursday (December 21 and 22), the delegation will host meetings with Mr Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit, President of the National Anti-Corruption Commission of Thailand, and Mr Bhumivisan Kasemsook, Secretary-General of the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission respectively, to strengthen graft-fighting collaboration and liaison.
During their visit, the delegation will also pay courtesy visits to Mr Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia, as well as Mr Han Zhiqiang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Thailand respectively.
ICAC officers accompanying Mr Woo on the visit are Mr Bryan Chong Ka-lok, Assistant Director of the Operations Department, Mr Lawrence Chung Wan-hon, Assistant Director of International Cooperation of the International Cooperation and Corporate Services Department, Mr Martin Lee King-man, Principal Investigator of the Operations Department, and Ms Florence Au Pui-wai, Regional Officer of the Community Relations Department. The delegation will return to Hong Kong on this Thursday (December 22).
