ICAC Commissioner visits Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to strengthen regional anti-graft collaboration

Commissioner Woo Ying-ming yesterday (July 24) commenced his duty visit to five cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) to foster exchanges with anti-corruption agencies and procuratorate agencies in the Mainland and Macao.

Mr Woo, leading an ICAC delegation of 6, arrived in Guangzhou yesterday. The Commissioner called on Song Fulong, Director of the Guangdong Provincial Commission of Supervision and the duo exchanged on the latest anti-corruption work and probity development in Guangzhou and Hong Kong respectively. Mr Woo also briefed Mr Song on the forthcoming International Anti-corruption Academy of Hong Kong (Academy) and explored cooperation opportunities.

“The Country is providing full support to the development of the Greater Bay Area and is set to forge its international competitiveness. The ICAC delegation will make the best use of this trip to visit some of the major cities in the Greater Bay Area to learn about their latest development and participate in in-depth exchanges. We hope to seize this opportunity to deepen cooperation in the Greater Bay Area, strengthen regional anti-corruption capabilities, and work in tantum to maintain a fair business environment and a probity culture in order to tie in with the Country's development policies,” Mr Woo said.

The ICAC would also exchange experience and views with anti-corruption and procuratorate agencies on the preparation of the Academy, and discuss cooperation initiatives in different aspects. The ICAC believed this was important for the Academy to become a key platform for anti-corruption exchanges, research studies and trainings in the region in future, Mr Woo noted.

Today (July 25) Mr Woo will visit the Guangzhou Municipal Commission of Supervision. The delegation will then travel to Dongguan, Shenzhen and Zhuhai respectively in the following days to meet with representatives of supervisory bodies.

On Friday (July 28), the delegation will depart for Macao where they will call on the Macao Public Prosecutions Office and the Macao Commission Against Corruption to discuss Hong Kong-Macao anti-graft cooperation and the latest corruption situations of the two regions. The delegation will return to Hong Kong on the same day.
