A registered voter has been charged by the ICAC today (Tuesday) for allegedly committing a voting offence at the 2015 Rural Representative (Resident Representative) Election for Chung Hau (South) held in Mui Wo, Lantau Island.
Lam Kam-yau, 61, retired, faces one count of engaging in corrupt conduct with respect to voting at election, contrary to Section 16(1)(a) of the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance.
The defendant will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistracy on Thursday (November 26) for plea.
At the material time, the defendant was a registered voter of the Rural Representative (Resident Representative) Election for Chung Hau (South), which was held in Mui Wo, Lantau Island on January 4, 2015.
ICAC enquiries revealed that the defendant had moved out from a public housing estate in Mui Wo since March 2006. He ceased to be eligible for voting at the election.
The charge alleges that on January 4, 2015, the defendant engaged in corrupt conduct at the election by voting at it knowing that he was not entitled to do so.
