A proprietor of a laundry company appeared in the Eastern Magistracy today (Thursday) after being charged by the ICAC with bribing a then manager of a hotel in relation to the provision of laundry services to the hotel.

Peter Yu Wing-woon, 58, proprietor of Tingo Laundry & Dry Cleaning Company (Tingo), who was charged on Tuesday (November 24), faced one count of offering an advantage to an agent, contrary to Section 9(2)(b) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. Principal Magistrate Ms Bina Chainrai adjourned the case until December 23 this year for a pre-trial review.

At the material time, the defendant was the proprietor of Tingo, which had entered into a laundry and dry cleaning service agreement with South Pacific Hotel (SPH) in Wan Chai.

The charge alleged that on February 2, 2014, the defendant offered $3,000 in cash to a then housekeeping operation manager of SPH as a reward for showing or forbearing to show favour or disfavour to him in relation to the provision of laundry services by Tingo to SPH.

The defendant was granted cash bail of $10,000. He was also ordered not to enter SPH, not to interfere with prosecution witnesses and to reside at his reported address.

SPH had rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.

The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer William Leung.
