An Acting Senior Superintendent of the Customs and Excise Department (C&E) appeared in the Eastern Magistracy this (Tuesday) afternoon after being charged by the ICAC with accepting an unauthorised loan of $280,000 from a Senior Customs Officer.

Lee Hon-wah, 53, who was charged this morning, faced one count of prescribed officer accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 3 of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

No plea was taken. Magistrate Jason Wan Siu-ming adjourned the case to January 19 next year for plea.

At the material time, the defendant was an Acting Senior Superintendent of the Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau of the C&E.

The charge alleged that on December 30, 2013, the defendant, without the general or special permission of the Chief Executive, accepted a loan of $280,000 from a Senior Customs Officer of the C&E.

The defendant was granted cash bail of $10,000. He was also ordered not to leave Hong Kong, reside at his reported address, inform the Police 24 hours prior to any change of address, and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.

The C&E had rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.

The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Raymond Yung.
