2024-7-18
The latest batch of tertiary and senior secondary students participating in the ICAC “ELITE Youth Leadership Programme” (iELITE Programme) took an oath to join force with the ICAC in the fight against corruption and equip themselves to become future leaders with integrity, national identity and global vision by taking part in diversified training and activities arranged by the ICAC in the coming year. Meanwhile, participants of last year’s programme had formed “iELITE Nexus”, a youth anti-corruption think tank, to contribute to the integrity development of the country and Hong Kong.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the training camp of the Second iELITE Programme today (July 18), ICAC Commissioner Mr Woo Ying-ming attributed Hong Kong’s clean and safe environment to the enduring support by the government and the public. The ICAC was committed to sharing its wealth of anti-corruption experience amassed in the past 50 years with overseas counterparts. Participants of the First iELITE Programme were given exposure to various international events such as the ICAC Symposium held earlier to share their views with graft-fighters from around the world, promoting the Commission’s work and telling the good stories of Hong Kong.
Encouraging the participants, Woo said, “The iELITE Programme provides a platform for participants to join, practise and plan education and publicity initiatives of the ICAC, broadening their horizons to embrace cultural diversity and nurturing them to become responsible and aspiring youth to make contribution to our country and Hong Kong.”
The ICAC first launched the iELITE Programme last year to groom participants to become honest and responsible young leaders with a sense of national identity and global vision through training and activities aiming at enhancing their Exposure, Leadership, International perspective, Teamwork and Engagement.
The iELITE Programme was joined by around 90 students from 12 tertiary institutions and 27 secondary schools this year. Starting from Tuesday (July 16), participants attended a leadership training camp tailor-made for the programme. At the closing ceremony of the training camp today, participants took an oath, which was administered by Woo, to embrace the rule of law and contribute to the country and Hong Kong’s integrity development with their best efforts.
In the coming year, participants will take part in a series of ICAC leadership training activities, including a study visit to Xi’an in late July in the company of ICAC officers to learn about the anti-corruption work and latest economic developments of the country.
Meanwhile, the ICAC today appointed youth anti-corruption think tank “iELITE Nexus” founded by 10 participants of the First iELITE Programme to support the anti-corruption work of the Commission in the coming year. Members of the think tank, comprising secondary school students, university students and working youth, will share their engagement in anti-corruption work at ICAC’s advisory committee meeting.
