At the opening ceremony of the ninth Belt and Road (B&R) Summit today (September 11), ICAC Commissioner, Mr Woo Ying-ming, exchanged Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with representatives of anti-corruption agencies of Maldives and Indonesia. The ceremony was witnessed by the Chief Executive, Mr John Lee.
The MoUs were signed by Mr Woo and President of the Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives, Mr Adam Shamil, as well as Vice-Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission of Indonesia, Dr Johanis Tanak, respectively at the closing ceremony of the Professional Anti-corruption Training in Major Infrastructure Projects for B&R Countries hosted by the Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption yesterday (September 10). Areas of co-operation covered by the MoUs include exchange of information in relation to corruption, diversified anti-corruption training and collaboration in various initiatives.
To pave the way for deeper anti-graft cooperation, Mr Woo and senior ICAC officers also took the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with delegations of the Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives and the Corruption Eradication Commission of Indonesia, who made a special trip to Hong Kong for the purpose.
“The signing of MoUs with anti-corruption agencies of Maldives and Indonesia signifies the fruitful results of ICAC’s efforts in providing training programmes for the two countries over the years, and demonstrates the Commission’s commitment to enhancing international co-operation in combating corruption. I trust that the ICAC will enter into MoUs with even more overseas anti-corruption authorities in the days to come,” Mr Woo noted.
Mr Shamil said, “The MoU establishes the framework for our co-operation and symbolises our partnership grounded in trust, mutual respect, and a unified vision for a corruption-free future. The bonds we strengthened will contribute to the global effort to create a world where transparency, accountability and good governance thrive.”
“The signing of MoU between the Corruption Eradication Commission of Indonesia and the Hong Kong ICAC is a testament to our shared commitment to uphold justice. It underscores the importance of knowledge and experience sharing in the fight against corruption, and serves as a strong foundation for successful collaborations in the future,” said Dr Tanak.
In addition to the signing of MoUs with Maldives and Indonesia, both being B&R countries, the ICAC had entered into MoUs with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, as well as anti-corruption agencies of three B&R countries - Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia and South Africa - and Mauritius, at the 8th ICAC Symposium in May this year to strengthen global anti-corruption collaboration.
