2024-10-24
Sixty internal auditors from 25 bureaux/departments of the government today (October 24) attended an ICAC Corruption Prevention Seminar which set to raise their awareness and understanding of corruption-prone procedures and further enhance the overall corruption prevention capability of the government.
Welcoming participants to the seminar, Assistant Director of the Corruption Prevention Department, Ms Kate Cheuk Chi-yan, noted that through systemic review, internal audit could help improve individual department’s risk management and governance over finance, compliance, and operations. Moreover, suspected corruption or loopholes giving rise to corruption might be identified during the process.
“Hong Kong is renowned for having a clean civil service. The ICAC is committed to upholding the integrity culture in civil service and has maintained close partnership with internal auditors of the government. The seminar will further strengthen the awareness and anti-corruption capability of internal auditors and the ICAC will continue to provide necessary support,” Cheuk added.
Today’s seminar featured presentations by Chief Corruption Prevention Officers and Senior Forensic Accountant who were experienced in internal audit. Through case studies, participants were able to learn more about identifying corruption loopholes in operations and procedures of individual departments, such as procurement and contract administration, etc, as well as corresponding control measures.
