Inaugural “Integrity Management Award” by ICAC and CIC encourages contractors to strengthen integrity management

2024-11-7

The ICAC is committed to assisting the construction industry to enhance integrity management and corruption prevention capabilities. In order to encourage the sector to implement integrity management continually and uphold a probity culture, the ICAC has joined hands with the Construction Industry Council (CIC) to launch the “Integrity Management Award” in the Outstanding Contractor Award 2024 and took part in its assessment.

At the award presentation ceremony of the Outstanding Contractor Award 2024 organised by the CIC last night (November 6), the ICAC’s Director of Corruption Prevention, Mr Bryan Chong Ka-lok, presented the “Integrity Management Award” to two major contractors in recognition of their notable performance in integrity management – China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited and Gammon Construction Limited.

Chong noted that the introduction of the “Integrity Management Award” to the Outstanding Contractor Award was particularly meaningful as this year marked the 75th anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China and the golden jubilee of the ICAC. The “Integrity Management Award” demonstrated Hong Kong construction industry’s support for the Belt and Road Integrity Building and commitment to promoting corruption prevention work by incentive measures. A total of 15 major contractors, which had joined the Construction Industry Integrity Charter 2.0 and adopted diversified integrity management measures, competed for the newly introduced award. This showed that the industry was striving to enhance its integrity culture, and Hong Kong’s public-private partnership approach was effective in strengthening enterprises’ integrity management.

The Construction Industry Integrity Charter 2.0 was jointly launched by the ICAC, the Development Bureau (DEVB) and the CIC in December 2022. So far over 500 construction companies and consulting firms have joined the Charter. The ICAC has been providing corruption prevention support and integrity training to the participating companies. The ICAC will continue to maintain close collaboration with the DEVB and the CIC to enhance integrity management in the construction industry.
