ICAC Response Statement

2025-9-23

Following the announcement by the CUHK Medical Centre (CUHKMC) this (September 23) morning and in response to media enquiries, an ICAC spokesperson confirmed that the Commission had received a corruption complaint from the CUHKMC. It was suspected that certain staff members of the CUHKMC had abused his/her authority to defraud the Centre of money by illegal means, allegedly contravening Section 9(3) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance, i.e., agent using document with intent to deceive his/her principal. After collecting evidence, ICAC officers arrested two staff members of the CUHKMC and carried out searches under warrants issued by the court last Thursday (September 18). The two arrestees had been released on ICAC bail, pending further investigation.

As for the issues revealed in the case, the ICAC will assist the CUHKMC to review and strengthen its corruption prevention measures, in order to enhance its integrity management and stamp out corruption and other malpractices.

As the investigation is ongoing, no further comments will be made.
