New ICAC drama series to hit screen this month

2016-4-13

A new five-episode TV drama series “ICAC Investigators 2016”, which is jointly produced by the ICAC and the Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), will hit the screen later this month.

To mark the launch of the drama series, a premiere was held at Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre yesterday (April 12) evening.

Over 1,000 guests, including members of ICAC advisory committees, community and business leaders, representatives from government departments and public organisations, ICAC Ambassadors and ICAC Club members, attended the premiere.

In addition, about 400 citizens, who got tickets through the online event on the ICAC’s Facebook fan page “All for Integrity”, also joined the function.

The “All for Integrity” programme is a multiple-year territory-wide publicity and education project of the ICAC to further engage citizens from all walks of life to foster positive values and integrity messages.

In his welcoming remarks at the premiere, ICAC Commissioner Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu said the ICAC first launched its TV drama series in 1976. Over the years, this popular TV drama series had become a branded programme of its community education work.

Being one of the initiatives under the “All for Integrity” programme, the latest “ICAC Investigators 2016” continued to adopt real past ICAC cases to highlight the evils of corruption and the anti-graft agency’s determination in maintaining Hong Kong as a city of probity. It also reminded citizens to stay alert and continue to adopt a “zero tolerance” attitude towards corruption.

Instead of adopting the past practice of featuring an individual case in each episode, the 16th “ICAC Investigators 2016” will focus on a group of investigators facing various corruption cases in a series so as to make the TV drama more entertaining and inspiring.

“Apart from ICAC officers’ investigative work, the new TV drama series has also placed more focus on their human side, highlighting their perseverance and determination in the fight against graft,” Mr Peh said.

Also officiating at the premiere yesterday evening was Mr Cheng Shin-keong, General Manager of TVB.

The new ICAC TV drama series will be broadcast on TVB Jade at 8:30 pm on five consecutive Saturdays starting from April 23. Meanwhile, “The Making of ICAC Investigators 2016” will also be telecast at 8:30 pm this Saturday (April 16). Audience can also watch the drama series through TVB’s online platform and mobile phone applications at the same time.

The five episodes feature cases including bribing examiner in a driving test, bribery electors at the District Council Election, senior executives of a jewellery company offering bribes to tour guides, a corruption and fraud scam involving listed companies and bank officers accepting bribes to approve loan applications.

The latest “ICAC Investigators 2016” is directed by renowned film director Herman Yau Lai-to. The cast includes Ruco Chan, Kenneth Ma, John Chiang, Lawrence Cheng, Lai Lok-yi, Cheung Kwok-keung, Kong May-yee, Natalie Tong, Elaine Yiu, Kelly Fu and Karmen Kwok.
