2016-5-9

ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu today (Monday) embarked on his three-day visit to Beijing and Tianjin, where he would call on anti-graft and related authorities, and address the Ninth Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA).

In Beijing, the Commissioner paid a visit to the Minister of Supervision to exchange views on the latest development in anti-corruption work.

Mr Peh also paid a visit to the Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council who was in charge of discipline inspection this afternoon. After that, Mr Peh will depart for Tianjin in the evening to attend the Executive Committee Meeting and the Ninth Annual Conference and General Meeting of the IAACA to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The conference, themed “The Future of Anti-Corruption Authorities: Lessons Learned and Charting the Way Forward”, will be attended by anti-graft and law enforcement officials and experts around the world. Mr Peh will deliver a keynote speech at a plenary session of the conference on Wednesday, sharing the success factors of Hong Kong’s graft-fighting work.

At the margin of the conference, Mr Peh will also meet with the Procurator-General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate to update him on the Commission’s latest initiatives and to exchange views on the cooperation in anti-corruption work.

The IAACA, of which the Hong Kong ICAC has been a member since 2007, is a non-governmental international organisation established to strengthen cooperation in worldwide anti-corruption issues and facilitate the effective implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

It comprises more than 300 organisational members from anti-graft as well as law enforcement agencies and related organisations from all over the world, while Mr Peh is a member of the Executive Committee of the IAACA.

Accompanying Mr Peh during his visit to Beijing and Tianjin is Lawrence Chung Wan-hon, Acting Principal Liaison Officer of the International and Mainland Liaison Office of the ICAC. They will conclude the visit Wednesday evening (May 11).
