Jewellery company customer charged with $30,000 bribe-for-refund of diamond ring

A customer of a jewellery company has been charged by the ICAC today (Thursday) with offering a bribe of $30,000 to an employee of the jewellery company to get a refund of a diamond ring he purchased at $788,000.

Ng Yuk-keung, 52, faces one count of offering an advantage to an agent, contrary to Section 9(2)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

The defendant will appear in the Kowloon City Magistracy tomorrow (Friday) for plea.

The charge alleges that on September 14, 2014, the defendant, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, offered $30,000 to an employee of a jewellery company as a reward for assisting him in getting a refund of a diamond ring he purchased at $788,000 on the preceding day.

The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
