A director of a metal products manufacturing company has been charged by the ICAC today (January 10) with offering a bribe of $1,000 to an employee of a bank for assisting him in opening an account for his company.
Ru Kaishun, 50, sole director-cum-shareholder of Fengfa Metal Products Limited (Fengfa), who was arrested yesterday (January 9), faces one count of offering an advantage to an agent, contrary to Section 9(2)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.
Ru will be brought to the West Kowloon Magistracy for plea tomorrow (January 11).
At the material time, Ru was the sole director-cum-shareholder of Fengfa, a metal products manufacturing company registered in Hong Kong.
The charge alleges that on November 3, 2016, Ru, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, offered a bribe of $1,000 to an employee of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) as a reward for offering assistance to him in relation to opening a business account for Fengfa at the bank.
The employee of HSBC declined Ru’s offer instantly, and reported the matter to the management of the bank.
The management of HSBC has rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.
