Proprietor charged with $200,000 bribery over air-condition piping works

The proprietor of an air-condition engineering company has been charged by the ICAC today (March 20) with conspiracy for a then assistant project manager of another engineering firm to accept an illegal rebate of about $200,000 for recommending air-condition piping works of a commercial complex to the air-condition engineering company.
So Sung-loi, 53, sole proprietor of Wan Laiai Air-Condition Engineering Company (WLAC), faces a charge of conspiracy for an agent to accept advantages, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance and Section 159A of the Crimes Ordinance.
The defendant will appear in the West Kowloon Magistracy on Wednesday (March 22) for plea.
At the material time, the defendant was the sole proprietor of WLAC, an air-conditioning renovation contractor.
The charge alleges that between September 1, 2013 and November 30, 2014, the defendant conspired together with a then assistant project manager of another engineering firm for the latter to, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, accept approximately $200,000 cash from him as a reward for recommending for subcontracting air-condition piping works in the renovation project of Yau Oi Commercial Complex in Yau Oi Estate, Tuen Mun to WLAC.
The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance on Wednesday.
