The ICAC’s Regional Office (Kowloon East/Sai Kung) has opened its door at a new premises in Kowloon Bay and will continue to partner with the local communities to promote the anti-graft message and further entrench a probity culture.
Speaking today (June 27) at the opening ceremony of the relocated regional office, ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu said the Regional Office (Kowloon East/Sai Kung) had been relocated to various premises since 1977 but rapport with the local communities continued to grow.
“Regional offices of the ICAC’s Community Relations Department serve as focal points for face-to-face liaisons with local communities, as well as easily accessed and resourceful places for members of the public to lodge corruption complaints or make enquiries,” said Mr Peh.
“Over the past four decades, Hong Kong, once afflicted by rampant corruption, had emerged as a clean society. These regional offices witnessed not only this societal change, but also the ever-increasing trust and support from the public,” Mr Peh noted.
According to the latest ICAC annual survey, 99.1 per cent of respondents said they had not come across corruption personally in the past 12 months while 96.8 per cent of them indicated their support towards the ICAC’s anti-corruption work.
The Commissioner noted that the seven regional offices of the ICAC’s Community Relations Department, spanning the territory at various locations, played a pivotal role under the ICAC’s three-pronged anti-corruption and education strategy.
“Since the early days, our regional offices had spared no efforts in connecting with the public. In time, we successfully brought about a fundamental change in the public’s attitude towards corruption from meek acceptance to zero tolerance,” Mr Peh said.
Formerly situated in Lam Tin, the ICAC Regional Office (Kowloon East/Sai Kung) is now located on Ground Floor, Chevalier Commercial Centre, 8 Wang Hoi Road, Kowloon Bay, and opens from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
