A former merchandiser of a trading company has been charged by the ICAC with fraud by pocketing overstated payments of over Renminbi 580,000 payable to various suppliers.
Pun Kit-ying, 36, former merchandiser of Hingtex Industries Company Limited (Hingtex), who was charged yesterday (January 14), faces one count of fraud, contrary to Section 16A of the Theft Ordinance.
The defendant will appear at the West Kowloon Magistracy tomorrow (January 16) for transfer to the District Court for plea.
The case arose from a corruption complaint. Subsequent ICAC enquiries revealed the above alleged offence.
At the material time, the defendant was a merchandiser of Hingtex, which engaged in the trading of fashion accessories. She was responsible for sourcing jewelleries and leather products from various suppliers on the Mainland for clients of Hingtex.
The charge alleges that between August 26, 2010 and February 28, 2015, the defendant falsely overstated the amounts payable by Hingtex to various suppliers for the goods ordered with them, and with intent to defraud, induced Hingtex to make payments for the overstated amounts to her, which resulted in benefit to her or prejudice to Hingtex.
ICAC enquiries revealed that the total payments for the overstated amounts allegedly pocketed by the defendant was over Renminbi 580,000.
Hingtex has rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation into the case.
The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending her court appearance tomorrow.
