ICAC chief to address IMD conference in Switzerland

ICAC Commissioner Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu today (October 2) undertakes an official visit to Lausanne, Switzerland where he will share Hong Kong’s latest anti-corruption initiatives at an international conference held by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD).

Mr Peh will attend the IMD World Competitiveness Center 30th Anniversary Conference tomorrow (October 3) and address participants in a roundtable discussion session themed “Education and Talent”.

In the discussion session, Mr Peh will share with participants ICAC’s experience and strategies in nurturing and retaining talent of integrity in order to enhance Hong Kong’s competitiveness.

Also speaking at the same roundtable discussion will be Mr Mauro Dell’Ambrogio, former State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation, Switzerland; and Mr Alexander Stubb, Vice President of the European Investment Bank and former Prime Minister of Finland.

During the two-day conference, Mr Peh will also take the opportunity to update IMD and over 300 attendants on recent social events and happenings in Hong Kong, and exchange with senior officials and experts from different jurisdictions on issues of common concern.

IMD is an international academic and research institution in Switzerland which has conducted dedicated researches on world competitiveness for 30 years. The World Competitiveness Center 30th Anniversary Conference will be attended by senior government officials, academics, professionals, and representatives of multi-national corporations and international organisations.

In the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2019 released by IMD in May this year, Hong Kong was rated the second most competitive among 63 economies. In one of the assessing criteria – “bribing and corruption”, Hong Kong was ranked the 14th this year, one place up from the previous year.

ICAC officers accompanying Mr Peh during the visit are Ms Sally Kwan Yee-lan, Secretary to Commission Against Corruption; and Mr Lawrence Chung Wan-hon, Principal International Liaison and Training Officer. The delegation will depart for Hong Kong on Saturday (October 5).
