Ex-security guard charged with bribing supervisor
2020-6-15
A former security guard of a property management company has been charged by the ICAC today (June 15) with offering red packets containing $2,000 to her then supervisor in relation to her work.
Hu Chenghui, 51, former security guard of Jones Lang LaSalle Limited (JLL), faces one count of offering an advantage to agent, contrary to Section 9(2)(b) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.
The defendant will appear at the Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday (June 17) for plea.
At the material time, the defendant was a night-shift security guard of JLL posted to a commercial building in Kwun Tong. She was under the supervision of a senior property officer of JLL.
On December 16, 2019, the defendant did not turn up for work. Furthermore, she had not submitted any sick leave application and/or medical certificate to the supervisor. On December 17, 2019, the supervisor told the defendant that a warning letter would be issued to her as penalty.
In January 2020, a warning letter issued by JLL in mid-December 2019 was served to the defendant regarding her unauthorised absence from work on December 16, 2019.
The charge alleges that on or about January 14, 2020, the defendant, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, offered $2,000 contained in two red packets to the aforesaid senior property officer as an inducement to or reward for being or remaining favourably disposed to the defendant in relation to her employment matters with JLL.
The senior property officer rejected the defendant’s offer and subsequently reported the matter to the management of JLL.
JLL has rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation into the case.
The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending her court appearance on Wednesday.
