February 2018

According to the 2017 Corruption Perceptions Index just released by Transparency International, Hong Kong was ranked the 13th least corrupt place among 180 countries, two places up from previous year"s ranking. It also remains one of the cleanest places in Asia.

Meanwhile, ICAC"s Annual Survey 2017 (Annual Survey) conducted by an independent consultancy firm also showed a low level of corruption in the city. An experienced-based question in this Annual Survey indicated that only 0.6% of the respondents said they had come across corruption in the past 12 months while 99.1% did not have such experience.

The Annual Survey also showed that the community adopted zero tolerance against corruption. On a scale of 0-10 of which 0 represents total rejection and 10 total tolerance, a mean score of 0.6 was registered indicating extremely low tolerance. Almost all of those being polled (99.2%) considered keeping Hong Kong corruption-free was important to the overall development of the city while an overwhelming majority (96.8%) said the ICAC deserved their support.

With continued strong support of the community and the Government, the ICAC is determined to partner with every generation to safeguard Hong Kong"s probity environment in both the public and private sectors through its time tested holistic strategy of combating corruption through law enforcement, systemic prevention and public education.
