ICAC chief urges youngsters to uphold integrity at times of challenges
2015-6-13
About 200 youngsters today (Saturday) chatted with ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu face to face and learnt about his tip for a successful life and his expectations of young people.
“Never abandon your integrity even at times of challenges,” said Mr Peh at the fifth anniversary gathering of i-League, the ICAC’s youth engagement programme.
“Because the cost for taking shortcuts and trading personal integrity for money is way higher than you perceive,” said Mr Peh.
Mr Peh called on young people to pass on the value of probity to their peers and exude a positive influence to the community by becoming ethical leaders in their positions.
The Commissioner also shared with participants his campus life as a university student back in the 1970s.
At today’s gathering held at the ICAC Building, Mr Peh and Professor John Leong Chi-yan, Chairman of the Citizens Advisory Committee on Community Relations, also presented appreciation certificates to about 130 ICAC Ambassadors for their dedicated efforts in spreading probity messages on campuses in 2014/15 school year. Heads and senior executives of tertiary institutes also attended the gathering to show support to their students.
Established in 2010 and currently supported by 17 local tertiary institutes, i-League has over 800 members who are either serving or former ICAC Ambassadors who had initiated different integrity activities on campuses, reaching more than 70,000 tertiary students over the years.
To commemorate its fifth anniversary, i-League members took initiatives in planning and organising today’s event.
Under the ICAC Ambassador Programme, training camps, workshops, visits and other activities were organised for members to learn first-hand integrity related issues and Hong Kong’s latest anti-graft initiatives.
They had also participated and assisted in a wide range of preventive education programmes, such as the production of TV drama series “ICAC Investigators” and web programme “ICAC Today”, as well as other publicity projects such as the Commission’s Open Day.
In the coming year, the ICAC will continue to recruit tertiary students as partners of the Commission’s anti-graft work. New Ambassadors and all i-League members will also have the opportunity to meet business leaders in visits to chambers of commerce to learn more about professional ethics and integrity.
