ICAC chief shares parenting tips

Parents must lead by example and abide by the law at all times when planning for their children, ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu today (Sunday) told about 300 audience at the Hong Kong Book Fair.
Speaking at the Storytelling by Celebrities Session at the Book Fair, Mr Peh said having high hopes for their children was no excuse for parents to resort to bribery.
“By defying the law, not only will a parent face legal responsibilities, he or she will also bring a negative influence to the child,” said Mr Peh.
Sharing with the audience two cases in relation to students breaching the law in order to get good results in examinations, the Commissioner reiterated the importance of upholding the core values of honesty, integrity and fairness.
Co-hosting today’s event was Lilian Lui Lai-hung, Principal of Yuen Kong Kindergarten in Yuen Long. Ms Lui pointed out that through story-telling, positive values could be effectively communicated to young children to help them resist the temptation of corruption as they grew.
To illustrate story-telling techniques, Ms Lui shared with the audience a short story from the ICAC’s latest publication “Gee Dor Dor’s Space Adventure”.
Mr Peh and Ms Lui also toured the ICAC Booth where a variety of the Commission’s publications and multi-media products, including those on moral education as well as corruption prevention guides for different sectors, were displayed.
They also wrote “wishing cards” at the ICAC Booth to express their aspirations for a corruption-free society.
This was the second year for the ICAC to participate in the Hong Kong Book Fair. This year the ICAC Booth features a “Children’s Corner” where visitors can engage in parenting activities such as a tongue-twister game, ICAC’s API roadshow, micro film show and Gee Dor Dor cartoon screening.
