Ex-HR head of IT firm charged by ICAC with soliciting bribes from job seekers

2022-10-12

The ICAC today (October 12) charged a former head of the human resources department of an information technology company for soliciting bribes from three job applicants for assisting them to obtain a higher monthly salary.

Chan Chun-po, 34, former manager of Aigens Technology Limited (Aigens), faces five counts of agent soliciting an advantage, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance. He was released on ICAC bail, pending his appearance at the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts on Friday (October 14) for plea.

The alleged offences took place between August 2020 and January 2021. At the material time, the defendant was the head of the human resources department of Aigens, which was an information technology company.

During the period, the defendant was responsible for interviewing three job applicants for two engineer posts and a customer service post.

The charges allege that the defendant, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, solicited a bribe of $500, $3,000 or an unspecified sum from the three job applicants as an inducement to or reward for assisting them to obtain a higher monthly salary from Aigens.

ICAC investigation revealed that the defendant had allegedly solicited bribes twice from two of the job applicants. All three job applicants did not accede to his requests. Aigens did not allow its employees to solicit or accept advantages from job applicants for assisting them to obtain a higher monthly salary from the company.

Aigens has rendered assistance to the ICAC during its investigation into the case.
