2022-12-6
The ICAC today (December 6) charged a former team leader of an engineering company with accepting bribes for assisting a subcontractor to secure a construction works subcontract of a private residential project.
Mok Yiu-chuen, 62, former team leader of Temmex Engineering Limited (Temmex), faces three counts of agent accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance. The defendant was released on ICAC bail, pending his appearance at the Shatin Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday (December 8) for plea.
At the material time, Temmex was one of the subcontractors of a private residential construction project in Tai Po Kau (the site). The defendant was a team leader of Temmex who was responsible for recruiting workers and supervising their construction works.
In May 2021, the defendant referred another subcontractor to Temmex to take up the construction works of a road at the site at $700,000.
It is alleged that between June and August 2021, the defendant accepted from the subcontractor three bribes of $3,000 each for assisting the latter to secure the above road construction works subcontract.
Temmex did not allow its staff to solicit or accept advantages for matters in relation to its business, including referring subcontractors to it. The company has rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation into the case.
