ICAC Commissioner visits Beijing and Anhui to strengthen Mainland-Hong Kong anti-graft collaboration

An ICAC delegation led by Commissioner Woo Ying-ming today (March 27) commenced a visit to anti-corruption agencies in Beijing and Anhui to exchange the latest development of anti-graft initiatives and capacity building in fighting corruption. The visit marked the first of its kind since the full resumption of cross-border travel between the Mainland and Hong Kong.
Mr Woo was received by Director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Mr Xia Baolong this afternoon. The delegation then called on the National Commission of Supervision (NCS) where they met with Deputy Director of NCS Mr Fu Kui to discuss strengthening collaboration. Earlier today the delegation also visited the China Academy of Discipline Inspection and Supervision and met with the Associate Dean Mr Liu Shuo to explore cooperation.
“I am very pleased to be received by Director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Mr Xia Baolong and brief him on the probity situation of Hong Kong and the ICAC’s latest anti-corruption efforts and development, including the setting up of the International Anti-corruption Academy of Hong Kong (Academy). During the meeting with Deputy Director of NCS Mr Fu Kui, I learnt about the latest national anti-corruption initiatives and vision. The ICAC will strive to align its work with the national development and the implementation of anti-corruption policies, as well as strengthen the anti-corruption collaboration between the Mainland and Hong Kong. Meanwhile, the Academy will set to become a platform for overseas counterparts to learn the latest anti-graft initiatives and development of our country and Hong Kong. Later we will also meet with the Mainland anti-corruption academics to exchange views on the setting up of the Academy. I believe their professional advice will greatly benefit the future development of the Academy,” said Mr Woo.
Tomorrow (March 28) the delegation will call on Procurator General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate Mr Ying Yong and Vice Minister of Public Security Mr Chen Siyuan. Later in the same day, they will visit Tsinghua University’s Disciplinary Inspection and Supervision Research Institute to exchange views with anti-corruption academics on the establishment of the Academy. The delegation will depart for Anhui on Wednesday (March 29) to continue their visit.
On Thursday (March 30) and Friday (March 31), the delegation will visit the Anhui Provincial Commission of Supervision and the Huangshan Municipal Commission of Supervision respectively. They will also visit the local integrity education base and facilities for promoting probity culture.
ICAC officers accompanying Mr Woo on the duty visit are Director of Investigation (Private Sector) of the Operations Department Mr Choi Shu-keung, Assistant Director of Community Relations of the Community Relations Department Ms Evalina Yim Hau-wan, Assistant Director of International Cooperation of the International Cooperation and Corporate Services Department Mr Lawrence Chung Wan-hon, Principal Corruption Prevention Officer of the Corruption Prevention Department Mr Ricky Lai Wai-ki, Principal Investigator of the Operations Department Mr Paul Lau Chi-ho, Chief Investigator of the Operations Department Mr Gary Wong Hon-kit and Staff Officer Mr Justin Tung Siu-kei. The delegation will return to Hong Kong on Saturday (April 1).
