ICAC hosts “ELITE Youth Leadership Programme” for future society leaders
2023-7-19
The ICAC launched a brand new “ELITE Youth Leadership Programme” (the Programme) tailored for tertiary and senior secondary students with a focus on anti-corruption and international perspective. Through diversified anti-graft training and exchange activities, the Programme aims to equip students to become future leaders who lead with integrity, a sense of responsibility and a global vision, and who stand ready to join hands with the ICAC to safeguard the integrity and rule of law in Hong Kong.
At the launching ceremony today (July 19), ICAC Commissioner Mr Woo Ying-ming told “iElite Youth Leaders” that the Programme would give them in-depth understanding of ICAC’s anti-corruption work. They would also learn first-hand about the country’s anti-graft initiatives as well as economic and trade development through exchange activities.
“Abiding by the law and staying committed to the anti-corruption cause is only the first step. Students should grasp these learning opportunities to comprehend the country’s determination in anti-corruption and its achievements in integrity development. Participants should also develop a global vision and consider, from a macro perspective, how Hong Kong’s edge as a corruption-free society could be brought into full play,” said Mr Woo.
Administered by Mr Woo, “iElite Youth Leaders” today took an oath to embrace the rule of law and contribute to the country and Hong Kong’s integrity development with their best efforts. A total of 70 “iELITE Youth Leaders” from 12 tertiary institutions and 18 secondary schools joined the Programme.
The Programme is founded on five core concepts, namely Exposure, Leadership, International perspective, Teamwork and Engagement.
In the coming year, students will participate in a host of leadership training activities, including visiting anti-corruption units in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, participating in international anti-corruption conferences and other activities, meeting with society leaders of different sectors, visiting different disciplined services units and other government organisations, etc. Through these activities, the ICAC hopes to broaden their anti-graft perspectives, strengthen their belief in the anti-corruption cause, and enhance their understanding of Hong Kong’s judicial system and the importance of the rule of law.
Participants also completed a two-day leadership training camp specially designed for the programme by the ICAC, which commenced on Tuesday (July 18). They were shown and given the opportunities to simulate the Commission’s investigative and law enforcement work, as well as learning about Hong Kong’s anti-corruption laws. The training helped students equip themselves so that they could unleash their potentials in the Programme.
Other ICAC directorates attending the launching ceremony today included Deputy Commissioner cum Head of Operations Mr Ricky Yau Shu-chun and Director of Community Relations Ms Corinna Wong Kit-mui. They presented certificates to the “iElite Youth Leaders” in recognition of their active participation and completion of the leadership training camp.
