Rural Representative Election voter charged with bribe-for-votes

A registered voter of the 2015 Rural Representative Election has been charged by the ICAC today (Wednesday) with accepting a bribe of $2,000 for her to vote for a particular candidate and get her mother to vote for the same candidate at the election.

Ho Ching-yi, 27, unemployed, faces two counts of engaging in corrupt conduct at an election, contrary to Section 11(1)(e) and Section 11(1)(g) of the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance respectively.

The defendant will appear at the Tuen Mun Magistracy tomorrow (Thursday) for plea.

At the material time, the defendant, an indigenous inhabitant of Wong Nai Tun Tsuen in Shap Pat Heung, Yuen Long, was a registered voter of the 2015 Rural Representative (Indigenous Inhabitant Representative) Election for Wong Nai Tun.

One of the charges alleges that on January 17, 2015, the defendant engaged in corrupt conduct at the election by accepting $2,000 as an inducement for her to vote for a particular candidate.

The other charge alleges that on the same day, the defendant engaged in corrupt conduct at the election by accepting the $2,000 as an inducement for getting her mother to vote for the same candidate.

The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending her court appearance tomorrow.
