Duo charged with bribery at 2015 DC Election

2015-11-18

Two persons have been charged by the ICAC today (Wednesday) with conspiracy to accept a bribe up to $200,000 for getting one of them to stand as a candidate at the 2015 District Council (DC) Election.

Ku Ka-ho, 32, a renovation worker, and Chan Kin-loong, 37, a merchant, face a joint charge of conspiracy to engage in corrupt conduct at an election, contrary to Section 7(1)(g) of the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance (ECICO) and Section 159A of the Crimes Ordinance.

The defendants will appear at the Eastern Magistracy in the afternoon of this Friday (November 20) for mention.

The ICAC investigation arose from a complaint alleging corrupt conduct under the ECICO.

The charge alleges that between July 12 and August 9, 2015, Ku and Chan conspired together and with Cheng Wing-kin and another person for Ku to engage in corrupt conduct at the 2015 DC Election by accepting from Cheng a sum of money between $150,000 and $200,000 as an inducement for Ku to get Chan to stand as a candidate at a specified geographical constituency of the election.

The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearance on Friday.
