ICAC Commissioner Woo Ying-ming commenced a 3-day duty visit to Beijing where he attended the opening ceremony of a National Studies Course organised by the National Academy of Governance for middle and senior ICAC officers. The anti-graft chief will also take the opportunity to call on judiciary and procuratorate agencies for exchanges on anti-corruption work.

Mr Woo, who arrived in Beijing yesterday (September 3), visited the National Academy of Governance today (September 4) to learn about the latest development in personnel training. He also attended the opening ceremony of the National Studies Course participated by 27 middle and senior ICAC officers. Noting that the course was the first of its kind organised by the Academy since the reopening of border between Mainland and Hong Kong, Mr Woo encouraged ICAC officers to treasure the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the country’s latest development, broaden their perspectives, and exchange with experts and academics in different fields.

“All course participants are the backbone of the ICAC as well as pillars of Hong Kong’s future development. Under the ‘patriots administering Hong Kong’ principle, officers should have high aspirations and a macro perspective and approach issues from a strategic perspective in order to contribute to the country and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region,” Mr Woo said.

The ICAC and Mainland anti-graft agencies have established close collaboration over the years. To serve the country with loyalty, Mr Woo encouraged ICAC officers to explore how they could connect the anti-corruption work between Mainland and Hong Kong. “We should pursue the well-being of the public with a firm patriotic stance and commitment to the anti-corruption cause. This way, we can contribute significantly to the steady and long-term implementation of the ‘One Country Two Systems’ policy,” Mr Woo added.

Following the opening ceremony, Mr Woo will call on the Supreme People's Court and the National Supervision Commission respectively to exchange the latest on anti-corruption work and probity development of the two places. The Commissioner will return to Hong Kong on Tuesday (September 5).

ICAC officers accompanying Mr Woo on the duty visit are Assistant Director of the Operations Department Mr Bryan Chong Ka-lok, Chief Investigator Mr Gary Wong Hon-kit, Chief International Cooperation Officer of the International Cooperation and Corporate Services Department Ms Crystal Lee Ngan-yan, and Staff Officer Mr Justin Tung Siu-kei.
