District Councillors were today (Saturday) urged to render their continued support to the promotion of anti-corruption in the districts during a visit to the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

More than 40 District Councillors were updated on the latest developments in anti-corruption work during visit, the first of a series of four organised for all District Councillors.

The Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption, Mr Alan Lai Nin, was amongst senior ICAC officials receiving the visiting guests this morning.

Mrs Rosanna Ure, ICAC's Director of Community Relations, kicked off the programme with a general brief on the latest corruption situation and ICAC's overall strategy in combating corruption.

She noted that the District Councils had been a close partner of the ICAC in promoting preventive education activities in the past and "I have no doubt that this partnership will continue in the future. ”

Mrs Ure said as part of the Commission's district liaison programme, a series of seminars would be organised in the coming year for owners' incorporations to enhance clean and better building management.

Mr Samuel Hui Kwok-ting, Group Head of the Advisory Services Group, briefed visitors on the Corruption Prevention Department's work in the coming year.

Mr Hui also introduced a new Best Practices package under preparation on the disbursement of grants by organisations wholly or partly funded by the Government.

" Where public money is entrusted to an organisation, it has a duty to act in the best interest of the public by achieving the purpose of the grant in an open and fair manner, and avoiding potential conflict between duty and personal interest," he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Ng Ping-kwok, ICAC's Principal Investigator, shared his experience in investigating corruption allegations.

He also explained the procedures in handling corruption complaints and the checks and balances on ICAC's work.

The District Council members also toured various ICAC's facilities - the 24-hour Report Centre, the Detention Centre, the Exhibition Hall, the Identification Parade Room, and the Video Interview Room.
