Senior PC charged with deception

A Senior Police Constable, who had allegedly attempted to swindle money out of a hawker by claiming that the Police was raising funds for its football team, was charged by the ICAC today (Monday).
Suen Yik-wah, 46, attached to Sai Kung Police Station, will appear at Kwun Tong Court tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9:30 am .
Suen was charged with one count of attempting to dishonestly obtain from Ng Chau-lung $3,000, by falsely representing that the money was for sponsoring a football team from Sai Kung Police Station to take part in a match in the Mainland.
The alleged offence took place on June 23, 1999.
The Police had earlier referred the case to the ICAC for inivestigation.
It was alleged that Suen had visited Ng's vegetable stall in Sai Kung in plain clothes on June 23, 1999 and requested Ng to sponsor a football match organised by the Sai Kung Police Station. Suen also allegedly claimed that another stall had already spon sored $10,000.
ICAC investigations revealed that no such football match was organised nor were there any fund raising activities.
Suen has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
