Senior Police Constable accused of soliciting bribe to speed up investigation

A Senior Detective Police Constable was today (Saturday) charged by the ICAC for allegedly soliciting a $200,000 bribe for offering assistance to two brothers in the investigation of a $8 million deception case.
Lee Chi-him, aged 40, attached to the District Crime Squad of Tai Po Police Police Station, will appear in Tuen Mun Court at 9:30 am on Monday (April 17) to face two charges.
Lee was alleged to have solicited $200,000 from Wong Wai-ming between May 1 and June 30, 1998 as a reward for expediting a police investigation into a deception case in which Wong was the alleged victim.
The defendant was also accused of soliciting a $100,000 loan from Wong Wai-ming ’ s younger brother Wong Tai-chuen between April 16 and 30, 1998, without the general or special permission of the Chief Executive.
The Wong brothers reported to the police on April 16, 1998 that they had been defrauded of $8 million in connection with land transactions.
It was alleged that the defendant had visited Wong Wai-ming's office and solicited $200,000 in return for a Senior Inspector and himself to offer assistance in the deception case.
Lee was released on ICAC bail until court appearance on Monday.
