A former pharmaceutical product salesman who allegedly claimed that he could help a debt collector facing criminal charges secure acquittal has been charged by the ICAC with blackmail and deception.
Lau Kam-keung, 48, now unemployed and being remanded in jail custody in connection with a Police case, was alleged to have demanded $300,000 as a reward.
The defendant will appear at 9:30 am in Eastern Court tomorrow (Friday) to face two charges.
The first charge alleged Lau of making an unwarranted demand of $300,000 from debt collector Ng Siu-kei with menaces with a view to gain for himself or with intent to cause loss to another.
Lau also faced an alternative charge, which alleged that Lau had attempted to dishonestly obtain $300,000 from Ng by falsely representing that he could arrange Ng's acquittal of an offence of criminal intimidation for which he was to face trial.
The alleged offences took place between July 20 and November 14 last year.
