2000-8-30
A Police Station Sergeant was charged by the ICAC today (Wednesday) for allegedly bribing a government works supervisor to get new doors and other fixtures for the staff quarters allocated to him.
Ho Yau-hon, 39, now attached to the Sham Shui Po Police Station, will appear at 9:30 am in Shatin Court tomorrow (Thursday) to face one count of offering an advantage to a public servant, contrary to Section 4(1)(b) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.
The case arose from a referral from the Hong Kong Police Force in April this year during their investigation into an allegation that doors and fixtures of the staff quarters had been wilfully damaged.
Ho allegedly offered a bribe to a Works Supervisor I of the Architectural Services Department, who was checking the internal condition of the flat in the Shatin Police Married Quarters, New Territories on March 2 this year.
During the inspection, the works supervisor found all the doors and fixtures inside the flat had been damaged. He reported the damages to his senior officer, who then referred the matter to the police.
Ho allegedly offered a bundle of banknotes in an unknown sum to the works supervisor to get all the damaged doors and other fixtures replaced speedily. The offer was refused.
Ho was released on ICAC bail, pending court appearance tomorrow.
