ICAC charges Senior Police Superintendent with illegal bookmaking

A Senior Superintendent of Police and two businessmen, arrested in an ICAC operation in connection with horse race bookmaking allegedly protected by police officers, were charged by the ICAC today (Monday).
Chu Kam-yiu, 53, Senior Superintendent, and Addy Chow Chi-wang, 49 and Hon Pui-tak, 61, both merchants, will appear at San Po Kong Court at 9:30 am tomorrow (Tuesday) .
The defendants, currently on ICAC bail, face one joint charge of engaging in bookmaking between February 26 and June 21 this year.
Hon was further charged with one count of using the premises at Man Wan Road, Homantin, as a gambling establishment on June 21 this year.
The case arose from an ICAC investigation into corruption allegations that some police officers were protecting illegal bookmaking activities.
A total of 18 persons, including the three defendants, were arrested in June this year during operation "Spotted Leopard". The corruption investigation is still continuing.
The remaining arrestees included a former Senior Superintendent, a serving Detective Senior Police Constable, a former Detective Sergeant, a television artiste, two horse owners, a serving and a former bank employees, and seven other civilians.
