Customs Officer jailed for selling and possessing pirated 'PlayStation' products

A Customs Officer of the Customs and Excise Department (C&E) was sentenced to four months' imprisonment at Tsuen Wan Court today (Tuesday) for selling and possessing counterfeit "PlayStation" products at a VCD shop in Kwai Chung Plaza.
Chan Kam-keung, 33, earlier pleaded guilty during the trial after Magistrate Mr Allan Wyeth ruled that there was a case to answer.
He admitted two counts of selling goods with forged trade mark, one count of possessing such goods, and two counts of possessing infringing copies of copyright works.
Co-defendant Choi Chi-cheong, 23, a partner of the VCD shop "GUNDAM", jointly charged with Chan on four offences, had earlier pleaded guilty. He was jailed for two months.
The case arose from a corruption complaint, alleging that a pirated VCD shop had been receiving tip-offs about C&E raids through bribery.
ICAC enquiries found that the duo was operating a VCD shop selling pirated products.
The court heard that Chan and Choi had sold two memory cards and two controllers, and possessed 133 memory cards and 80 controllers with a forged trade mark "PlayStation" at the shop.
They had in their possession 86 programme memory cartridges, without the licence of the copyright owner.
Chan also possessed 45 CD-ROMs, which were infringing copies of copyright works.
The offences took place between October 26, 1999 and March 22 last year.
The prosecution was today represented by Henry Ma on a fiat, assisted by ICAC officer Shirley Cheung.
