Former clerk alleged of pocketing $380,000 owners' incorporation funds

2001-5-4

A former clerk of a Kwai Chung industrial building's owners' incorporation (OI), charged by the ICAC with allegedly pocketing OI funds totalling $387,000, appeared at Tsuen Wan Court today (Friday).

The ICAC commenced investigation after receiving a report from the owners' incorporation, who discovered discrepancies in the ledger.

Tang Kit-chin, 53, former accounts clerk of the Incorporated Owners of Wah Fat Industrial Building, faced nine sample charges.

The charges alleged Tang of stealing $387,573 in total from the Incorporated Owners of Wah Fat Industrial Building between May 1998 and June 1999. The money was parking fees collected at the building's carpark.

No plea was taken today. Magistrate Ms Julia Livesey adjourned the case to May 18, 2001, pending transfer to District Court, and granted the defendant bail of $10,000 in cash.

Tang resigned from the owners' incorporation in December 1999.

The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Larry Lam.
